Prayer for the new year
Above everything else that I wanted to write to you, I felt a strong calling to pray for you and share this prayer. So for the new year, join me in prayer:
New Year Prayer
Blessed Lord, You are our strength and confidence. Our hope, shield and defence. What a year 2020 was. Father, we are not clear on Your divine will as your Word tells us ‘who can fathom the mind of the Lord? Or who can claim to be His advisor? Or, who can give to God in advance so that God must pay him back? For all that exists originates in you Lord, comes through You, and is moving towards You; so we give You O Lord all the glory forever’.

For those that mourned in 2020, we pray Your everlasting peace and comfort. For those that are sick, we pray for divine intervention to heal. Those with ‘incurable’ diseases, we can only turn to you with our doubts and uncertainties. Father, help our unbelief. We acknowledge that You are the Creator; the one who determines life and death. For those that lost jobs, businesses or income, we pray that you will open doors and grant them the blessings of Job.
Your word tells us that we are to cry out. In Psalm 107, you have promised that you will save us from distress in times of trouble and send out your word to heal. Jehovah-Rapha, we need just one word from you.
Like the woman that approached the judge in Luke 18, we will continue to call out to you. You have ordered us to be persistent. To get on your nerves. So we approach your throne with our concerns and requests.
May we not be discouraged by the things that may not have happened in 2020. Remembering that in all things, it is according to your will. May we not take the grace that you so freely give us for granted.
Jehovah-Nissi, the Lord our banner, cover us as we enter into this new year. For this journey that we are on, we pray for your guidance. Teach us to walk in your footsteps; light our paths. May we live our lives in truth, humility and justice. Plant the word of truth in our hearts and water it with the essence of the Holy Spirit so that our lives will continually bear good fruit. All for your glory.
In Jesus’ name. Amen
