I am standing in front of a group of 17 adults who are all watching me attentively as I answer a question asked during our bible study. In my mind I truly am not connected to what my mouth is saying but I am getting quite a few nods and smiles so it must be something great.
Have you ever had an “out of body” experience? I felt on that day as if I did. Prior to every study, I am preparing as well as praying and even sometimes fasting. But I am always full of nerves.
In my devotion tonight with my family, I gave the real life example above for the verses we were reading:
““You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”Matthew 5:13-16
I explained that sometimes the adults ask me questions that my first reaction would be to panic but I quickly check myself and start praying to my one and only Source for all wisdom, knowledge and truth = Jesus. I am HIS vessel and so my prayer is for HIM to speak through me. I want to decrease and HE increase. I want HIM to get all the glory. And many times I leave the class not really sure what I said but their responses and feedback each week is affirming as well as I see their joy and growth.
So I reminded my family the importance of being connected to the one and only Source, who is God our Father. It doesn’t matter how much you know or do not know. When you are connected to Christ and giving of yourself in obedience to HIM and seeing HIM first in all things then HE will be glorified.
Salt is strongest at its source. Light is strongest at its source. When you are connected to the source, you are filled with power to light up the world and add spice and flavor to a dull sick world.
Food for thought: The World prefers you to keep your light hidden so that darkness can creep in and take over. Take a stand. Don’t let Satan blow out your light. Let your light shine. Be salty and shake up the world and bring glory to God’s kingdom.
Prayer: Creator of this World. Lamb of God. God of light and love. Glory and honor be to your Holy Name. We have become so comfortable with the dark and evil that is rampant in our world. Forgive us. We have become lazy and lacking in our love and care for others. Forgive us. We have allowed the world to frighten us and make us cower so that we do not spread the Good News. Forgive us. Forgive us Father for we have sinned. Fill us with your light. May we glue ourselves to you as our only source so that our light do shine and we continually remain salty. In Jesus name. Amen
May God’s grace, mercy and peace be with you.
