The issue of marriages

Godly Woman 911 post - marriage

As I looked at my prayer list today I was excited to see that my prayer was for the newly marriage union of my best friend and her husband. Noting the issue of marriages of today, I was eager to support my prayer with scriptures for their bond. Only married for less than a year, my desire was to pray for love abounding, success, future kids and wisdom.

As I prayed for guidance in looking up scripture that would guide my prayer, two spoke clearly to my heart. The first was 1 Peter 4:8 “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” And Mark 10:9 “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

As I pondered these two verses and reflected on Ecclesiastes 4:12 “And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken” I quickly realized that the Lord was leading me to not only pray for my friends but to pray and encourage others to lift up the sacrament of marriage in prayer.

For those that have been married, we know that being in this type of relationship isn’t easy and some of the best advice we can give is what I call the 4 C’s: Christ, commitment, communication and conflict (management). Without the first as the cornerstone, the relationship will fail and the final 3 if mastered, will bring to any union peace and success.

The statistics

After I finished my prayer out of interest I referred to the UN Demographic and Social Statistics Division for statistics on marriage to divorce ratio and noted that out of top 10 countries in the world Europe took up 8 spots with Belgium leading at 71%, Portugal 68% and Hungary in 3rd place at 67%. The USA was last on the list at number 10 with a 50% ratio. Amongst the lowest percent ratios were the Caribbean region.

Which led me to really think… “Why?” But I knew that I was asking the wrong question! It isn’t why? For that we could come up with a myriad of excuses, but it really is who is to blame?

And many of us may be quick to blame men, women, society, this crazy world…. But that is all wrong.

The bible tells us that Satan has come to steal and destroy (John 10:10). The devil HATES marriages and family… That is where we need to place the correct blame. And once we recognize that then we need to all fight! And how do we fight for all marriages and family units? We pray, read and use scriptures in our prayers.

Reflection: Join me as I pray for marriages and families. Let us people of God who are called together by his name rise up and fight with prayer, praise and glory to God. HE answers prayers!

I became a Christian at a young age and baptized at the age of 13. My journey has been bittersweet. A majority of my life I have been a Christian. But not a Godly Woman. After many failures, tears and tribulation I realized that something in my Christian life had to change. No longer can I profess that I am a Christian but don’t show daily that Christ lives in me! No longer can I claim that I am HIS child when my thoughts, actions and deeds were not overflowing with HIS love. No longer could I live the way I was living and not seek him daily in prayer, scripture and worship. As the Lord blessed me with that knowledge I felt him also calling me to write my journey and share my thoughts, learning and mistakes with others. Hence the reason for 911. Not only was it a crises in my life to become a Godly Woman but as I delved into scripture to understand how to be Godly, I realized that we are living in crazy world where the desire to be Godly was no longer important. Many boast that they are a Christian and weekly attend Church, but lack the Godly qualities that Christ seeks in ALL of his followers. My deepest desire is to serve Christ faithfully, obey HIM joyfully, trust HIM always, seek HIM eternally and become his close friend so that I can share in his truth and knowledge. I pray that this blog blesses you and provide you with the strength, courage and wisdom to be a Godly Man or Woman.
