How to be a true worshiper

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.””‭‭John‬ ‭4:23-24‬‬‬

So let’s break this down a bit more.

What does worship mean? The word ‘worship’ is derived from the Old English (the earliest historical form of the English language) word ‘weorthscipe’, meaning worship, honour shown to an object, which has been etymologised as “worthiness or worth-ship”—to give, at its simplest, worth to something.

The context of worship is widely known and referred to in religious practices. It is an act of reverent devotion and allegiance to God. It is a noun that requires a person to act or express in some way.

In many ways worship is expressed through prayer, devotion, singing/ praise, thanksgiving, preaching and reading the bible.

But God isn’t seeking just a worshiper, he wants a true worshiper.

The scripture goes on to say one that will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.

You see, we can’t come to the Father and try to worship HIM when we have not prepared our hearts and minds first.

We have to receive HIS Spirit first before we can be a TRUE worshiper. Our soul needs to be right with God.

As Christians we can’t become a true worshiper if we are unwilling to forgive, if we continue to willingly walk into sin, if we refuse to discipline ourselves to reading the bible and praying daily.

God is seeking those that are obedient to HIS will, that wants a closer relationship with HIM and to seek HIS face.

For true worshippers it does not matter where they are, the situation or the time, they only want the Father’s Spirit within them so that they can worship in the Spirit!
God is Spirit so HE is everywhere, all the time.

Food for thought: Are you saved? Have you accepted Christ as your personal Savior? If you are a Christian, how obedient are you to submitting yourselves to Christ’s will. Are you a one day Christian or do you seek after Christ every… single… day!

Prayer: Holy Father, teach us how to be true worshipers. Forgive us for our selfishness. May we be obedient and submit to your will. In Jesus name. Amen
