Godly Woman Characteristic – Belief

Godly Woman Characteristic – Belief (Series)

This is a part of the godly woman characteristics series. The next post in this series can be found here.

“You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.” – James 2:19

Even the demons believe

A few years ago, in my frustrations with my ex-husband, I declared to him James 2:19. You see, he was not a Christian but firmly believed that there is one God. He was a man of the world, and my frustrations came about when he said to me, “You see things only in black and white. ‘You are either a Christian or not. You are either going to hell or you are going to heaven.’ I believe that there is a God. I do good things for people. I am as much a Christian as you.”

Now, my friend, I will be the first to tell you that I shouldn’t have taken that bait. But I was tired of being tired. It took me years to grow and choose my battles.

I tell you this story because I want to ensure that we set the foundation for my time with you today. Many lost souls in the world believe that there is one God. But only the persons who have genuine saving faith, meaning that they have committed their lives to Christ and proclaimed as stated in Romans 10:9 that “’ Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in [their] heart that God raised him from the dead” will have eternal life in heaven.

Even demons know that God exists and shudder. So, you may believe that there is a God, but if you haven’t given your life to God, truly trusting in Christ alone and experienced authentic and genuine saving faith, then you are not a Christian. You are not a child of God.

Godly Woman 911 - Belief Faith
Godly woman foundation

Believing in God and having saving faith is the foundation for every Godly woman. My friend, this is the first step, and it is so vital that you take this step. Once you have done this, then good works will follow. As noted in my previous post, the bible highlights 17 different characteristics of a godly woman. Unless we believe and have saving faith first in Christ, we won’t live out the other godly woman characteristics.

As noted by James in Chapter 2:14-17, “ What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Faith leans into what you know of Christ. Faith is what has us on our knees, believing and knowing that God is in control. Even if we can’t see it. Faith is trusting in God alone and being committed to His will (not our own).

A biblical example of crazy faith

So, what does a Godly Woman characteristic – belief look like?

“Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”

Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.

He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.” Matthew 15:21-28

This is some crazy faith. Maybe you or I would have been so offended by Jesus’ words. “Who is He calling a dog?” Or perhaps the meaning would have passed over us, but we didn’t like Jesus’ tone. The words of Jesus brings up so many emotions within me. Hurt, confusion, and shock come to mind.

In her wisdom, this woman focused on Jesus and her belief in what He could do. She fixed her eyes on Him. This Caananite woman knew that even the crumbs of Christ were more than enough. She had faith in knowing that anything she got from God was good enough.

As a gentile, God opened her heart to the truth. And in her faith, her daughter was healed.

The power of faith

My faith, your faith, can cause miraculous blessings in other people’s lives. Faith examples are tithing, giving generously, being kind and gentle, loving persons who are not kind to us, praying even when we feel our prayers are going unanswered, or not knowing how we will pay all of our bills. All we need to do is fix our eyes on Jesus, our salvation. Trust and hope in God to provide daily for our needs.

God will always bring you through any storm that you face. How you get through that storm depends on your faith. Are you leaning into all that you know when you are tried and tested? Are you exercising your faith? Don’t just have faith that lives in your mind; show it.

Food for thought: Faith isn’t automatic. It is an intentional act of trusting, obeying and committing all to Jesus.

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for Your Word. Guide us in Your truth. Believing in you is the first crucial characteristic of a Godly woman. We know that saving faith is not tied to works. There is only one way to You, and that is through Your son. But we know as your children, we are called to show the world the faith we have in Your son’s name. There is power in that name. When we are in the storms or on the mountain top, may we as women of God never forget to focus and fix our whole being on You and Your will. Amen

Have you ever been disappointed in God?

Published by godlywoman911

I became a Christian at a young age and baptized at the age of 13. My journey has been bittersweet. A majority of my life I have been a Christian. But not a Godly Woman. After many failures, tears and tribulation I realized that something in my Christian life had to change. No longer can I profess that I am a Christian but don’t show daily that Christ lives in me! No longer can I claim that I am HIS child when my thoughts, actions and deeds were not overflowing with HIS love. No longer could I live the way I was living and not seek him daily in prayer, scripture and worship. As the Lord blessed me with that knowledge I felt him also calling me to write my journey and share my thoughts, learning and mistakes with others. Hence the reason for 911. Not only was it a crises in my life to become a Godly Woman but as I delved into scripture to understand how to be Godly, I realized that we are living in crazy world where the desire to be Godly was no longer important. Many boast that they are a Christian and weekly attend Church, but lack the Godly qualities that Christ seeks in ALL of his followers. My deepest desire is to serve Christ faithfully, obey HIM joyfully, trust HIM always, seek HIM eternally and become his close friend so that I can share in his truth and knowledge. I pray that this blog blesses you and provide you with the strength, courage and wisdom to be a Godly Man or Woman.
