How to Study the Bible

How to Study the Bible

Our Bible study sessions launched this week, and we began with a series called: How to Study the Bible. The energy, participation and flow from the group was humbling. God is at work, and I am so excited to see their journey over the next few months.

If you would like to join, you can sign up here: http://signup.godlywoman911.com/biblestudy … classes are every Thursday at 7pm EST. I got a few messages from my GW911 family members reminding me they were in Africa and the Philippines, so I will look at launching sessions in those time regions soon.

So, how do you study the Bible? There are many methods out there! A few years ago, I spent weeks reading through each method and mentally exhausted myself by all the choices and instructions. In my mind, it was really too much work. I remember sitting down in my prayer room with my back against the wall and just looking up at the ceiling, feeling broken. I wanted to study God’s word, but I was no further along after studying ‘the methods’.

It truly is in my moments of failure, and finally surrendering, that I hear God. “Why are you looking to man’s words on how to study My book? Why have you not asked Me how I want you to study the Bible?” My breath whooshed out of me… Uuuggghhhh! I knew better. The doer in me failed once again to just give it to God and let Him direct me.

The 7 P’s on How to study the Bible

In my worship, prayer and fasting, God directed me to search the Bible and understand how I should approach Bible study. He made me avoid all man-made tools and just spend time with Him. From that, I felt that God was directing me to study with what I now term the 7 P’s of Bible Study. Passion: Come to Christ like a newborn babe, having a passionate desire to draw closer to Him. Surrendered and trusting Him.

Perseverance: We should practice as much as possible a daily study habit.

Praise: It is the one thing God can’t resist. When we praise and worship Him, He sits right with us. Worship in spirit and in truth.

Prayer: Building a connection and relationship with God requires you to speak to Him. Seek Him for His wisdom and guidance as you study.

Patience: We are not theologians and many of us have never studied the Bible. It will be hard. But if you follow the steps above, you will see daily God guiding you, loving you and showing you great and amazing things in His word. I am so excited for your journey!

Print: Scientists note that 80% of what we learn is lost in a matter of hours. I feel like that is minutes for me sometimes! So always take notes when you study.

Proactive (Purpose): You have listened, learned and now ready to live out your purpose and put it into action. Your notes as you went along will reflect some of your thoughts on things you should do right now as the Holy Spirit guides you.

God’s promise

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

Psalm 19:7-8

Prayer

Prayer: Holy Father, hallowed be Your name. Thank you for Your Word, which provides guidance in all areas of our lives. May we seek You first and rely only on You for wisdom and authority in reading and understanding the Bible. Guide us to our purpose and Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen

I became a Christian at a young age and baptized at the age of 13. My journey has been bittersweet. A majority of my life I have been a Christian. But not a Godly Woman. After many failures, tears and tribulation I realized that something in my Christian life had to change. No longer can I profess that I am a Christian but don’t show daily that Christ lives in me! No longer can I claim that I am HIS child when my thoughts, actions and deeds were not overflowing with HIS love. No longer could I live the way I was living and not seek him daily in prayer, scripture and worship. As the Lord blessed me with that knowledge I felt him also calling me to write my journey and share my thoughts, learning and mistakes with others. Hence the reason for 911. Not only was it a crises in my life to become a Godly Woman but as I delved into scripture to understand how to be Godly, I realized that we are living in crazy world where the desire to be Godly was no longer important. Many boast that they are a Christian and weekly attend Church, but lack the Godly qualities that Christ seeks in ALL of his followers. My deepest desire is to serve Christ faithfully, obey HIM joyfully, trust HIM always, seek HIM eternally and become his close friend so that I can share in his truth and knowledge. I pray that this blog blesses you and provide you with the strength, courage and wisdom to be a Godly Man or Woman.
