Yes Lord, send me
What happens when we say, “Yes Lord, send me”?
Last week, we looked at how God wanted to kill Moses. Today, I want us to take another look at the life of Moses.
What not to do to tick off God
In reading the story of Moses, I have drawn many valuable lessons, especially in the category of “What not to do to tick off God”.
“Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.”

Why was God angry?
It is easy to read this and question why God was angry. Let’s put ourselves in the place of a parent. You ask your child to go and do something because you see and know their potential, but they persist in doubting not only themselves but your ability to support them. If we are honest, over time, it could be a bit disappointing and even frustrating.
I can imagine God’s disappointment and frustration. If we allow it, fear can overtake rational thinking, and we forget who we serve and to whom we belong. The God who created all things can do the impossible. We limit His abilities and put Him in a box when we doubt ourselves and think we aren’t good enough.
When we continually press God, we stir His anger because we allow our fears to overwhelm us and don’t put our trust in Him. We do not acknowledge that God is supreme and can do the impossible. In the passage, we see that when Moses first doubted God, our Lord reminded Moses who he was speaking to… the Creator of all things. And still, Moses doubted.
Before we get frustrated with Moses, remember, this is the man that spoke to God like a friend. He had a very close relationship with God. But, Moses was so caught up in the ‘I can’t’ that he wasn’t hearing God’s words of ‘Yes you can’.
And that is how we miss our blessings. We tell God, “no, make someone else do it”. Then we get upset when we see someone else get the blessings we should have received ourselves!
Reflections
Food for thought: We are amazingly blessed through our trials and our testimonies. When we continue to run from them instead of standing up and having faith in knowing and believing that the Creator is right there with us, and He will deliver us, then we can’t complain when we see others being blessed and not ourselves.
Don’t delay. Say yes Lord, please send me.
Prayer: Abba Father, I am the greatest sinner of all. Yet, you love me and continually choose me. I will say Yes, Lord, Yes, to my dying day for I can never do enough to repay your never ending love for me. Amen
