“Jesus wept.” John 11:35
Society today demands that men shouldn’t cry.
It isn’t a manly action.
Many Christians also live this point of view.
To be honest I have looked on men who cry and been amazed and astonished because I have grown up in an environment and society that believes that men should not cry. And to cry is a form of weakness.
But yet the Christ that we serve “wept”.
The verse in John is categorized as the shortest verse in the bible. It is also one that has such a great depth in meaning.
Jesus wept out of amazing love that he had for Lazarus and his family. Christ who was so full of compassion and love showed his feelings by weeping.
So why do we not show the same love and compassion? Or why do we accept society’s popular beliefs in that this should not be done by men?
The story of Jesus weeping goes on to add other strong feelings and emotions that he displayed in that moment such as love, sorrow, frustration, compassion and indignation.
A man showing those emotions in today’s society is not a problem. Many would say that is fine. But yet, a man showing tears is not readily acceptable.
We all want to be like Jesus. We want to walk in HIS steps. We want to teach our children to be and live their lives like Jesus.
Don’t allow society’s norms and beliefs stop you from being JUST LIKE Jesus!
Food for thought: Let us not only talk the talk but walk the walk. And let us show compassion, caring, support and love to men of our society who are actually the real man’s man and will weep in their display of emotion.
Prayer: Abba Father, forgive us when we allow the world to form our beliefs and not be guided by you. Thank you for providing your Son as a wonderful example of what a man should be. Amen.
God’s grace, mercy and peace to you.
