So you have met someone and even though the butterflies are there, excitement and love is in the air, you want to make sure that this is the person God is calling you to marry.

Here are five (5) things in the bible to guide you:

Give over control
As humans we love control. Some persons truly struggle with handing control over to God. Jesus take the wheel is now a chant in my mind often as I know and understand that I can’t do it on my own. Mistakes and issues always arise when we feel we don’t need Jesus to be in control in areas of our life. We can miss out on great opportunities and ultimately the right partner in our life if we try to keep the control.

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3-4

Seek God’s wisdom
You have already made great steps to do this. You are reading posts like this. Ensure you also read the bible and God’s wisdom on this matter. What does the bible say about a good wife and a good husband…. Seek God’s wisdom.

A good husband: ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:21-33‬

A good wife: ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:10-30

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬ http://bible.com/111/php.4.6-7.niv

Equally yoked
This is such a fundamental teaching that so many have not obeyed. God designed marriage to be a harmonious unit and when couples are in disagreement over religious beliefs it causes great strife. We can’t marry individuals that will hinder our faith and relationship with God or teach and guide our children away from God. Heed the words of the apostle Paul who commanded believers –

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭6:14-16‬

Trust and Obey
God isn’t going to bring you someone who isn’t good for you. You have to trust in HIM and know that HE is bringing Mr or Mrs. Right. And more importantly obey God and submit. Obey God in the who, what, where and when.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬

Signs
It may seem silly but the bible speaks of this. Abraham’s chief servant sought God to show him signs as to who Isaac should marry.

“Then he prayed, “ Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and Iʼll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭24:12-14‬

And he was successful! Pray and ask a God to guide you – HE is a God of all possibilities.

Thoughts: Even after all of this, never stop seeking after Christ whether you are single or married. Stay in HIS word, pray and continue to grow in Christ. And most importantly, in all things and situations, give HIM thanks.

Prayer: Abba Father, you hear our desires and know our hearts. Forgive us for our impatience and wanting everything right NOW. Your timing is not only perfect but you know exactly what, where, who and when we need. In Jesus name. Amen

I became a Christian at a young age and baptized at the age of 13. My journey has been bittersweet. A majority of my life I have been a Christian. But not a Godly Woman. After many failures, tears and tribulation I realized that something in my Christian life had to change. No longer can I profess that I am a Christian but don’t show daily that Christ lives in me! No longer can I claim that I am HIS child when my thoughts, actions and deeds were not overflowing with HIS love. No longer could I live the way I was living and not seek him daily in prayer, scripture and worship. As the Lord blessed me with that knowledge I felt him also calling me to write my journey and share my thoughts, learning and mistakes with others. Hence the reason for 911. Not only was it a crises in my life to become a Godly Woman but as I delved into scripture to understand how to be Godly, I realized that we are living in crazy world where the desire to be Godly was no longer important. Many boast that they are a Christian and weekly attend Church, but lack the Godly qualities that Christ seeks in ALL of his followers. My deepest desire is to serve Christ faithfully, obey HIM joyfully, trust HIM always, seek HIM eternally and become his close friend so that I can share in his truth and knowledge. I pray that this blog blesses you and provide you with the strength, courage and wisdom to be a Godly Man or Woman.
